We are very close to Christmas now, and it would be great to just talk about happy times and joyous events, but the shire has experienced some tough times recently.

The district has recently suffered tragic losses on our roads. These deaths have a far-reaching effect across the community and an even more poignant loss to the family and loved ones of those who died. On behalf of Upper Lachlan Shire Council, I extend our condolences and sincerest sympathies.
Deaths on the roads can happen to even the safest drivers, sometimes due to unpredictable factors. Be especially careful if you are travelling unfamiliar roads and make allowances for changed road conditions. If you are going on a long drive, plan for breaks and be patient if stuck in holiday traffic.
Bushfires have also made their presence known in the shire this summer, both in the Green Wattle Creek fire that has edged onto the north eastern corner of the Upper Lachlan, and the pall of smoke that has hung around for days.
There is a very helpful guide to making a bushfire plan available at https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare/bush-fire-survival-plan. The NSWRFS also has the most accurate and up to date information about fires in NSW.
As we near the end of the year, don't forget the last council meeting of 2019 will be held in Crookwell Council Chambers this Thursday at 6pm. The meeting is open to the public, but seating is limited.
On behalf of all councillors and council staff, I wish you a safe and joyful Christmas holiday, and look forward to a great year together in 2020.
