Taralga NSW Rural Fire Service Captain John Sullivan told the people gathered that crews do not expect to be able to contain the Green Wattle Creek bushfire in today's weather.
Wombeyan Caves Road has closed this morning to prepare for worsening fire conditions. The road is closed between High Range Lane and the Wombeyan Caves.
Rocklilly Road residents have been advised to leave by noon, with property owners sent an emergency alert.
Winds are forecast to gust between 35 and 50 kilometres an hour in a north-west direction throughout the morning, with a westerly change by noon. An afternoon change, between 3pm and 6pm could push the firefront west and south-west.
"The weather between now and Saturday is not going to be favourable," Captain Sullivan said.
Temperatures are forecast to top 37 degrees and hit 40C on Saturday.
Firefighters have been establishing containment lines and strike teams will double on Friday, with teams from Yass joining those from Taralga, Fullerton, Roslyn, Narrawa, and more.
Crews have been burning close containment lines along the Colong Stock Route, and Range Fire Trail Road towards Limeburners Fire Trail, and will continue on the Maneveland Trail to Little Wombeyan Fire Trail.
"These are fire conditions we haven't seen before... be prepared and know what to do... leaving early is the safest option," Captain Sullivan said.
"If you're going to stay be aware of fire impact; it will be very loud, smoky and hot... The noise will build, smoke will build and the heat will be incredible.
"It's best that you leave early," said Captain Sullivan.
He advised residents not to travel on roads with poor visibility due to smoke, and to be aware of spotting and ember attack which could travel ahead of the fire front.
He urged people to communicate with each other on community networks, Facebook or email, for example, and to stay in touch with family living outside of the area.
On Saturday, Tarlaga RFS Fire Station, Orchard Street, will be open for people to get updates on the bushfire.
Large animal evacuation sites will be set up at the Taralga Showground if needed. Local Land Services have reminded people to bring buckets, or dishes, for water and fodder for their animals.
The Taralga War Memorial, Orchard Street, will be set up as a safer place for people to gather.
