Local Leaders | Upper Lachlan Shire Council: Road repairs will require patience

There have been more than a few grains of truth in Dorothea Mackellar's poem "My Country" over the last few weeks.

In that poem she spoke of Australia as a land of "droughts and flooding rains". Throw fires into the mix and we've witnessed a wide spectrum of extreme conditions over a very short space of time.

While we've all appreciated the recent rain, one of the unwelcome side effects has been flooding and damage caused to local roads.

Initially, a number of roads were blocked and under water, and as the water has cleared it has become apparent that some roads have been significantly damaged.

Some roads were closed for the best part of a week and many others still require considerable work to restore them.

Council has prioritised repairing roads that have been closed and is progressively working to repair all damaged roads.

We ask your patience as council staff works through the process of assessing and repairing the damage.

Council has made an application for a National Disaster Declaration which will provide assistance for the extensive repairs that need to be undertaken.

With more rain still expected in coming weeks, there is the chance that roads may be under water again, and that further damage be caused.

Please continue to exercise caution, particularly following rainfalls. Don't attempt to drive through flooded areas, or across flooded bridges and crossings. If you see any damaged or flooded roads, please report them to council on 4830 1000.
