This health crisis is unlike anything we've seen before, and I'm encouraged to see most members of the community taking this situation seriously, heeding the advice of the government.
Police are conducting patrols across the district to monitor compliance with the Public Health Act, including social distancing guidelines.
This includes working with local retailers to ensure fairness at the checkouts.
We want to reassure the community that we're working closely with the NSW Department of Health and other crucial government agencies to minimise risks to the wider community.
Police can now issue fines up to $5000 for business and $1000 for individuals failing to comply with Public Health Orders and will be doing so where breaches are detected.
These restrictions are in place for the protection of the broader public, and the NSW Police Force will protect its citizens, continuing our law enforcement capability throughout this pandemic.
Please stay safe and continue to follow official government advice so that police don't need to intervene.
We are faced with a different reality than the one we're used to.
We all need to adapt our routines to combat this threat and to protect each other.
