Deputy Chief Health Officer Dr Marianne Gale said 13 of the cases were from overseas travellers while 29 are locally acquired, five of whom attended a party boat cruise on Sydney Harbour on December 3.

"More cases of Omicron are now expected from this cruise. NSW Health is urgently contacting around 140 people who signed in with a QR code before boarding the boat and directing them and members of their households to get tested, isolate and await further advice," Dr Gale said.

Two cases were confirmed at the boat party on Wednesday while three were confirmed on Thursday, bringing the current cluster to five cases.

The boat parties were operated by Cadman Cruises, marketed as 'Flow Fridays - 90s Themed Boat Party' and 'Freaky Sunday Afrovibe: The Last Dance' and departed at 7:30pm and returned at 11pm on December 3.

Meanwhile, there is a cluster of 24 Omicron cases linked to a Villawood climbing gym in southwest Sydney and two schools.

The one death was from a man in his 70s from Lake Macquarie who died at Gosford Hospital. He had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had significant underlying health conditions.

There are currently 151 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 25 people in intensive care, eight of whom require ventilation.

To date, no Omicron cases have been admitted to hospital in NSW for treatment of COVID-19.

There were 84,883 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day's total of 92,566.

Across NSW, 94.7 per cent of people aged 16 and over have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 93 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Of the people aged 12 to 15, 81.4 per cent have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 77.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 12,981,914 with 4,183,073 doses administered by NSW Health to 8pm last night and 8,798,841 administered by the GP network, pharmacies and other providers to 11.59pm on Tuesday 7 December, 2021.
