Canberra is forecast for "considerable cloudiness" with a high of 25C on Christmas.

Meanwhile, Newcastle is set for a high of 27C with mixed weather in the morning and showers and a storm in the afternoon.

Wollongong is forecast for a thunderstorm in the morning and later intervals of cloud and sunshine with a high of 26C.

On Christmas Day, Ballarat is predicted to be sunny with some clouds and a high of 21C.

In Tasmania, Launceston will be turning cloudy with a high of 21C while Burnie will also be turning cloudy with a passing shower in the afternoon and a high of 17C.

Bathurst is forecast for intervals of clouds and sunshine with a high of 27C.

Warrnambool is forecast for intervals of clouds and sunshine with a high of 19C.

Tamworth is set for clouds with showers and thunderstorms becoming more widespread and a high of 27C.

In Wagga Wagga, Christmas is set to have plenty of sun with a high of 30C.

Albury-Wodonga will be mostly sunny with a high of 30C.

Shepparton is set for a sunny Christmas with a high of 31C.

Dubbo is forecast for a sunny but humid day at 31C with a thunderstorm in the afternoon

In Orange, Christmas is set for a high of 29C with more sunshine than clouds and a passing shower in the afternoon.

However, it should be noted that these early forecasts are subject to change.

The Bureau of Meteorology is yet to release weather forecasts for Christmas Day but has released a climate outlook for the holiday period.

"The fortnight from 20 December 2021 to 2 January 2022 is likely to be wetter than median for north-east Queensland, far eastern NSW, far eastern Victoria and most of Tasmania," the outlook read.

"Drier than median is likely for most of western WA and patches of central Australia. NT and small patches of south-west Queensland, northern SA and a patch over the Murray-Darling Basin

"Maximum temperatures are also likely to be below median for the southern half of Australia in this fortnight."
