Report for the 37th changeover dinner
THE annual changeover dinner for Crookwell Lions Club was held last Tuesday at the Crookwell RSL Club.
Around 50 people attended the dinner with visitors from other Lions clubs around the neighbouring areas. They travelled from Goulburn, Braidwood, Yass, Crookwell and Taralga to attend and show their support.
The Lions District Governor, Garry Parker and his wife Lois from Canberra were special guests for the evening.
The president’s report was very positive for the past twelve months. The president Robert Burbidge wasn’t able to attend the night but passed on his congratulations to the members for a very productive year.
The Club has catered at many events during the past 12 months, two team penning events, the sheep field day and the Brats car rally fundraising.
One of their major projects was the amenities block at the Pat Cullen Reserve at Kiamma Creek.
The members donated their time for a barbecue for the Walk for Cancer event and were also heavily involved with Christmas in the Park and in conjunction with the Rotary Club cooked breakfast at the Australia Day ceremony.
Major donations were given to: The Southcare Helicopter Rescue Service $1500; Viewhaven Lodge $1295; Caring Angels Christmas luncheon $150; Lions Foundation $654; A local family in need $1000 and the Kidney Car Rally $100. Totaling $8449. There also were donations given to local schools for $430.
They have also raised funds collecting scrap metal and wood raffles, making for a very productive 12 months.
The president Robert Burbidge also conveyed his thanks to Lion Norm Fountain for his continued support to the Club and to fellow Lions for all their hard work.
He also passed on his thanks to the community members for their continued support and donations to the Club.
There were two other awards on the night. The first was given to Brent Hall for appreciation for his photography for the Club and control of the Lions webpage.
The second was made to Judith Fountain for one-hundred per cent attendance throughout the year.
The dinner was excellent and the raffles on the night were won by Laurel McCarthy, Paddy Campbell and Geoff O’Connor and there was also a few jokes told.
A great night was had by all and the Lions Club is geared up to tackle the next 12 months of fundraising and donation towards the community.
