At present, Sam is currently a ACT/NSW Country player gaining selection in the inaugural Cricket Australia Pathway Rookie squad involving the widest cast of the game’s teenage talent net since the creation of the national cricket academy in 1987.
Sam was selected alongside 52 other players by Cricket Australia selectors to represent all states and territories in the initial squad.
Cricket Australia National Talent Manager Greg Chappell said, “the group have benefited from an enhanced cricket experience as they worked within these high performance programs.”
“The focus was on improving the all-round skills that the modern day game demands, as well as assisting each player by challenging them to grow as individuals away from the field.”
The players have been nominated by the State and Territory talent managers as having potential, and have now had the opportunity to benefit from greater exposure through their State-based high performance programs and the Bupa National Cricket Centre.
The National under-17 championships will culminate in November when the team plays against an under-16 team from Pakistan.
Sam is a fast bowler who has now gained selection in the Australian under 17 team.
Footnote - Sam is the son of Wendy and Kip Skelly of Crookwell.
