Footy season is done and dusted, so it is now full steam ahead for the Crookwell Golf Club White Devils. After showing glimpses of batting brilliance over the past couple of seasons Corey Knight has broken through for his maiden century. One-hundred on the dot and hopefully the first of many - but more about that later.

A close match that fell from Crookwell’s grasp on the first outing and a convincing win against the reigning premiers has been enough to see Crookwell sitting on top of the ladder at this early stage.
The opening game of the season saw only three faces from the successful campaign of two years ago, but we have some fine young replacements and sadly we have farewelled our captain Bomber Haynes with Nick Skelly taking over the reins. We would also like to welcome Luke Cummins, Tom Croker and the Patterson twins Josh and Jake who are proving to be a real headache for the scorers.
Into Goulburn last weekend to take on Hibo Gold, who had suffered their first loss in three years the week before. Crookwell won the toss and batted. Surprisingly, Corey Knight retained his opening position after an untidy duck on his first outing.
This week though Corey was in the mood. He took ten off the fourth over and never looked back. He smashed nine 4’s and it was his seventh 6 that brought up his ton. A very entertaining innings and one I’m sure we will be hearing plenty more about.
Sam “Pommy” Jackson got amongst the boundaries too with a pair of 6’s and a pair of 4’s to make up his 20. Solid knocks again from Nick Skelly, Tom Croker and Luke Cummins pushed the target to 194.
Hibo were in all sorts of trouble early with four big names back in the shed and only 29 on the board. And who did the damage – young Fox Fenton, just scintillating. 3/20 in a great spell and if I may make a bold prediction here I feel it could be the year of the Fox, our new all rounder. Some great catches, in particular by Jake Patterson kept the pressure on and Crookwell never let Hibo back in the event. Jake Patterson picked up his first two first grade wickets and an unplayable spell from Sparra Parsons bagged him 3/18 leaving Hibo 68 runs short. Their first game is at The Grange this Saturday so feel free to come and show your support.
