On 17 January this year, Gunning Community Care (GCC) received its formal accreditation for a GP Practice without a single suggestion for change or shortcoming to be rectified. The significance of this accreditation cannot be emphasised too strongly. The practice is ‘owned’ by GCC and not dependent on any one individual doctor who may operate under its auspices.
Executive Officer of GCC, Alison Colebrook with the support of the Management Committee, pushed hard to achieve this milestone to re-instate a regular medical service in the Gunning district. Andrew Woods, practice nurse with GCC played a significant role in this success.
Ms Colebrook said “We have a doctor ready and willing to take up clinical duties here. The only hold up is the red tape associated with getting the doctor’s provider number.”
GUNNING SHOW - 19 FEBRUARY
Come one, come all to the 2017 Gunning Show on 19 February! The John Clancy memorial seat will be dedicated at the trots the afternoon before. As usual there will be lots of free activities for the children, a continuing aim of the Show committee. Local business stock Show schedules with Show raffle prizes displayed in the local pharmacy window.
Gunning PA&I Society President Frank Hannan, is delighted at how the event is shaping up. The Flock Ewe competition kicks off with a bus load of Merino breeders following the judging at district properties this Friday. The winner will be announced at the Show and a select pen from each of the best flocks exhibited.
SCORCHERS TO RETURN
Appliances from Gunning/Fish River RFB together with other brigades and Bomber 220 brought a Hume Highway grass fire under control earlier this week. Extreme weather returns this weekend, so please exercise care and vigilance.
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO...?
On a recent trip to the Blue Mountains, we visited Everglades. This National Trust garden is managed by none other than former ULSC Tourism Manager Scott Pollock. The garden is described as “...a landmark in garden design, uniting romantic European elements, modernism and the raw magic of the Australian bush.”
Today Everglades, with minimal staff and a small army of local volunteers under Scott’s leadership, is magnificent. Check it out at www.everglades.org.au.
Others from our village now resident in the Blue Mountains area are former ULSC environment officer Warren Allen with his wife Maree and Mary and Mark, mein hosts at the former Doo Duck Inn.
