This year will be the same, with residents being able to get into the spirit of Clean Up Australia Day, with Upper Lachlan Shire Council offering free disposal of household goods on Sunday, 5 March 2017. Let’s make this a record year!
Register on the day between the hours of 8am to 12pm with Sean Proudman from Crookwell Rotary - in front of the Council building on Spring Street.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council General Manager John Bell said the Shire’s waste management centres will accept domestic waste, recyclables, automotive oil, garden organics and batteries free of charge. However, items of interest will not be stockpiled for people to scavenge.
“The free household waste drop off is an opportunity for locals to dispose of items that might otherwise be illegally dumped,” Mr Bell said. The following items will not be accepted:
- Chemicals, paints, pesticides, poisons, cooking oil, unknown liquids, smoke detectors, gas bottles and fire extinguishers
- Tyres
- Asbestos. If you have any asbestos to dispose of, you will need to contact Council beforehand to make a booking. Please note, asbestos can only be accepted at the Crookwell waste management centre and there are associated costs with this disposal.
Due to the recycling costs associated with recycling mattresses, Council will still charge $35 per mattress on the day. The Taralga and Collector centres are only able to accept small household waste.
Large items, such as furniture, can be taken to Crookwell and Gunning.
There are also a number of items that can be taken to any of the Shire’s waste management centres free of charge during normal opening hours. These include:
- Scrap metal – fridges, freezers, washing machines, iron, wire, wrecked cars
- Engine and hydraulic oil
- Car and truck batteries
- Plastic, glass, cardboard, paper
- Grass clippings
