The 2017 Crookwell Potato Festival Junior Australian Poetry Competition was held on Saturday afternoon at the Wesley Unity Church.

The Dame Mary Gilmore Society’s team consisted of three judges, Christopher Lee, Elizabeth Egan and Marion Jordan, as well as two assessors, Trevene Mattox and Heather Kerr.

The Dame Mary Gilmore Society’s judges were very pleased with the participants who provided an interesting choice of topics.

The performances were judged on a wide-ranging set of criteria and were enjoyed by all present.

Overall winners were:

Primary School - 1 st Emily Lamb, 2 nd Lucy Marshall, 3 rd William Gorman.

High School - 1 st Jarion Long, 2 nd Emily George, 3 rd Jack Searl.

Highly Commended – Charlotte Stephenson and Mikayla Barber.

The judging team wishes to thank Councillor Pam Kensit who presented the awards and her husband, David, who was emcee for the event.

Thanks also goes to the Rev. Daniel Mossfield for technical assistance, and the Parish Council for the use of the church which is an ideal venue for the competition.

The young people appreciated the help of Tressa Mattox in allaying their pre-performance jitters.
