"NSW Police is undergoing a review of the force's structure with the establishment of the Re-engineering Taskforce,” the spokesperson said.
“The Taskforce is focused on implementing the right structure for the NSW Police Force and identifying the biggest challenges for policing in the future. We are looking at where consolidations and realignment across the organisation can create greater efficiencies.”
The taskforce is led by the Police Association of NSW and begun about a month ago. This comes after NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller announced the possible restructure following his appointment to the role.
Officers were consulted in various forms, such as personal visits and emails.
Some areas will see a redistribution and streamlining of ranks, resulting in less management positions and more police on the frontline.
Boundary lines may also be reassessed.
“The Taskforce understands the very different needs of rural, regional and metropolitan NSW and is empowering local decision making,” the spokesperson said.
“We are creating a fluid police force that will consistently change to meet the needs of the community in the prevention, reduction and disruption of crime into the future.
There has been no set date for the completion of these findings.
