My daughter, like her brother before her, is about to go through two weeks of complex study in preparation of her exams. I must say, I’m close to breathing a sigh of relief as this chapter in her life, and my own, is nearly over.
I bet there are many other parents who have also gone through the highs and lows of end-of-school life, especially leading up to this for Year Twelvers.
Stress, anxiety, even tears and anger are just a few feelings we have endured over the past few months. Our own, as well as theirs!
There is light at the end of the tunnel, though, and I have a few pointers to share to help our students keep calm.
One: Find a nice place to study, somewhere that is well-lit.
Two: Remember to drink and eat at regular times; and,
Three: Take study breaks often. Short walks and deep breathing helps concentration.
It is an exhilarating and somewhat daunting time, young adulthood.
Having completed 13 years of primary and secondary education, it’s exciting as it is frightening to step away from childhood routine and embark on life as an adult.
First, many have the Higher School Certificate ahead, and others will no doubt go on to tertiary endeavours.
But even those who’ve passed through the campus gates for the last time will go on to be lifelong learners in the school of life.
Good luck to you all.
