The Annual Report was adopted unanimously by Councillors at the last Ordinary Council Meeting held at the Council Chambers Gunning.
Council’s General Manager John Bell said the 2016/2017 Annual Report outlines Council’s operations and achievements with respect to the objectives and performance targets set out in Council’s 2016/2017 Operational Plan.
“The Annual Report meets the NSW Government’s legislative requirements by including information such as, but not limited to, Council’s audited financial statements, a report on the condition of public works and a report as to the state of the environment in the Shire,” Mr Bell said.
“Of note, in 2016/2017 Council recorded a total net operating surplus of $5.221 million for the year, before capital grants and contributions. This equated to an Operating Performance Ratio of 16.47%.
“Council delivered $13.079 million in asset renewal and new infrastructure. Among the projects was the construction of the new Crookwell Water Treatment Plant, Gunning sewerage service main renewals, and gravel resheeting of unsealed rural roads throughout the Shire.
“In 2016/2017 Council also engaged consultants, Cardno NSW/ACT Pty Ltd to undertake the development of a Regional Community Strategic Plan (CSP) on behalf of Goulburn Mulwaree Council, Upper Lachlan Shire Council and Yass Valley Council, and was recognised in the Local Government NSW 2017 RH Dougherty Awards winning the ‘Reporting to Your Community’ category for Council’s work in developing its Facebook page as a tool to actively communicate and engage with the community.”
A copy of the Council’s 2016/2017 Annual Report will be provided to the NSW Office of Local Government, as required under the NSW Local Government Act 1993.
