According to reports, he died on the morning of Sunday, July 8, following a short battle with cancer.
The Harness Racing Club described Mr Allport as an avid carriage driver with a strong spirit for harness racing.
Each year, he participated in the Crookwell AP & H show and was committed to the support of mini trotting.
He was also a member and trials' supervisor for the Goulburn Harness Racing Club.
“Robert enjoyed considerable success with the Keilor horses, and more recently found much enjoyment with the many wins of the well performed Modern Dancer,” the statement read.
“Robert was an avid carriage driver, a pastime in which many a standard bred found their way to following their retirement from racing.
“Members of the Goulburn Harness Racing extend their deepest sympathies to Damon, Kimberly, Sallyanne, and Robert's other family members and friends.”
Mr Allport worked for the former Crookwell Shire Council and Upper Lachlan Shire Council for more than 40 years and was a member of the roads crew before becoming council’s Works Overseer.
Upper Lachlan Shire Council mayor Brian McCormack expressed his heartfelt sympathies to his family.
Robert's funeral will take place at St Mary's Catholic Church, Wade Street in Crookwell from 2pm on Wednesday, July 18.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Crookwell Hospital.
