At last meeting, Cr. Paul Culhane raised the subject.
“The parking lines are an ongoing problem,” Cr. Culhane commented.
He pointed out that one vehicle parked outside the lines meant all the other drivers had no choice but to do likewise.
Director of Works Mr. Phil Newham said he was not in favour of the lines, which had been introduced mainly as a guide.
“Parking in the main street is disgraceful,” he added.
“People are parking at 90 degrees – the 60 degrees are difficult for many people, but a 45 degree angle is a lot easier.”
Mr. Newham told Council he would take the matter up at the next meeting of the Traffic Committee.
Mayor Cr. John Shaw: “If they’re not policed, why have them? Any fines would not come back to Council in any case.”
Cr. James Wheelwright: “Can they be classified as only advisory lines?”
Mr. Newham: “No. We would have to take them off.”
Cr. Brian McCormack: “I was under the impression they were only guide lines.
“If anyone was to be booked we would have to bring in a parking inspector from Goulburn.
“If this is the case, one car parked incorrectly puts everyone else out down the street.
“This being the case I think we should pull the lines out as soon as possible.”
Mr. Newham said more information was needed.
Council will await the considerations of the Traffic Committee.
