Sunday November 9 was a hot day, and tested the walkers and their fitness when making their way to Memorial Park for their celebratory lunch cooked by Rotary.
Event organiser, Jo Marshall gave thanks to the many volunteers who made this day possible - Upper Lachlan Shire Council, Bus drivers Colin Pitt, Neil and Matt Skelly, Chris Fenton and the Mens Shed, our registration desk ladies Barb, Robyn, Cathy, Lisa, Carmel, Emma and Narelle, CWA Ladies for a delicious afternoon tea, Jan Fenton and Dimity Taylor for coordinating the walkers, Crookwell Hire for those convenient Portaloos, TJC for the Marquee, SES, RFS and our Local Police for driving the support vehicles, James Evans for organising the audio, and Matt Warren our DJ.
The walkers and their children also had the chance to enjoy, the jumping castle from First Pick for Parties, or talking to Sally Hudson from the Cancer Council, and Nicole Toia from Southern NSW Health who is trying to organise walking groups around the Shire.
If you were involved in the WACy Walk this year you would have seen the amazing raffle prizes, only possible due to the generosity of 25 local business owners who donated vouchers to attach to the three raffle trees and farmers Ed & Felicity Abbey for donating the lambs which were dressed by Lost River Produce.
Winners of the half lamb were Eva Wilson, Ken Wicks, Jan Fenton, and Desma Horton.
Winners in the raffles were Lana Davis, Jillian Croker, and Lisa Leonard.
Money raised from the raffles and the sponsorships is what is gifted to cancer sufferers and their carers in Upper Lachlan Shire.
All monies raised from the event is then managed through Crookwell Community Trust.
So don't forget to collect your sponsorships and deposit your money into the Commonwealth Bank Account mentioned on your sponsorship form stating you WAC number as reference, or post your form and money to Jo Marshall Walk Away Cancer PO Box 7, Binda NSW 2583.
Until next time, thank you for supporting this event and your community by being a WACy Walker 2014.
