Afternoon entertainment included the talented singing of Jamie Agius and the very energetic troupe from Southern Highland School of Dance.
Children in the crowd had plenty of fun on the jumping castle and battle arena and some brave souls even took the super water bomber challenge with friends.
There was plenty of hot food by Lions and Rotary as well as the coffee cart and these were very well patronised.
Santa and his Elves arrived at 5.00pm and was kept very busy with the elves having to drag him onto stage to kick off the Carols with the CADS choir, before waving goodbye to get back to the North Pole.
The combined schools choir delighted the crowd as did the Stephen’s family singers, the Unity Band, Chris Hinton and Eliza Stephens.
There were plenty of community singing and the evening finished with all joining in ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas.’
The Christmas in the Park committee worked very hard to bring Crookwell this festival and were not disappointed with the response. They welcome new members and new ideas for 2015.
The committee would also like to thank the many people who gave their time or equipment or made donations to name a few; Stan Charnock Transport, James Evans, Peter Stephens, Crown Theatre Café and all the helpers and singers on the day. Once again Crookwell community shone.
Crookwell lights up!
The Christmas light judges and their Fairy Light Elves were most impressed with the effort and beauty of this year’s wonderful town lights. It was a very hard decision and we would like to encourage everyone in their lighting activities. We strongly encourage everyone to drive by the lights over the coming weeks.
The winning lights for ‘best home’ was a close sleigh race, some people opened their garden in the evening, others have solar panels for extra power savings and some had very big dogs and the fair light elves found that a bit scary!
The winning home lights for 2014 was:
Leonie Loveday - 26 Croker Place
Leonie’s home has a fabulous range of lights and colours.
It includes waterfalls, and an Australian flag.
All collected over many years from garage sales, so we heard on our powered grapevine.
We would like to make a special mention of the Watson’s garden located at 66 Cowper Street and their enchanted rear lane access.
The best street was a big battle this year.
Nominations were received from Cowper Street, Kialla Road, Findhorn Street, Brooklands and Tait Streets on the way to Grabben Gullen. We recommend you visit all these streets.
The best street had no less than 13 homes involved with three private homes entered in the best home.
The winner for the best street 2014 is: Kialla Road - congratulations you have many wonderful lights on display.
Finally, we would like to announce best business lights.
The Fairy Light Elves think the street lights can be improved further in our town.
What influenced our decision was the Friday night trading with many happy revellers enjoying the improved lighting and happy feel of the business.
Highly commended business lights on Friday night 2014 were: The Crown Theatre Cafe.
They had a very pretty Christmas tree with some very tasteful decorations that made the main street look special.
Isn’t it great to celebrate the success of a new business in our town.
Well done and thankyou to everyone for making UPPER LACHLAN beautiful this Christmas.
Contributed.
Crooky Cup winners
The field may have been small for the inaugural Crooky Cup but the participants all agreed it was a really fun way to compete for a monetary prize for their club as well as be the first to have their name engraved on the Crooky Cup.
The competition reflected the sporting teams entered with competitors having to run while passing the ball between their legs (Touch Football) – Dribble a hockey ball between cones (hockey) – Try to run as fast as possible in the Flipper race (Swimming Club) and finally kick for goals (Football).
As you can imagine this made for some funny moments, with teams asking for more – which is what organisers are hoping for next year.
Touch Football was the winners and were presented with the very impressive ‘Crooky Cup’ a perpetual trophy, with the honour of being the first sporting team to have their name engraved,
The Christmas in the Park Committee are confident that more teams will enter next year making this a family event on the social calendar as part of the Christmas in the Park Festival.
