The boys started their season off with a hard fought win coming down to a penalty goal to seal victory 36-33.
The team have been working hard in the off season to shred the meat pies and beers ready for another big season, this was evident from the time the ref blew the first whistle.
It wasn't long, with the ball in hand and solid runs from the forwards, Gearin Price hit a hole 40 metres out with a side step, palm and dummy pass to dive under the posts.
The Dogs regathered and started again with some hard hits.
Close to the line saw some impressive pick and drives which Andrew Nolan finished off nicely pushing the defence over to the preschool to get another five pointer.
By this time the Boorowa side started to show some anger with some solid hits, but a few lifting tackles seen one of their players have a rest for 10 minutes on the sideline.
This stage the Dogs used the boot of fly half Dion ‘Fui’ Aramoana to get back down to the business end of the park with the ball finding the line 10 metres out.
Cheeky half back Aaron ‘red dog’ Leighton caught the Boorowa boys sleeping and made them pay with a try.
Dogs were confident with only 10 minutes left in the first half but Boorowa had other ideas, spreading the ball wide from the kick off and running away with a try in the corner leaving the half time score sitting at 21-5.
Kicking off into the sun the Dogs were keen to put this game away.
As pressure forced a mistake from Boorowa, the Dogs used their back line nicely with a cut out ball hitting winger Simon Kensit who dove three metres out putting it down next to the corner post.
The good local crowd started to make some noise as the boys gathered at the kick off.
Some backline moves and patient pick and drives, gave captain Patty Carlon bragging rights to a try.
By this time the boys started to show some fatigue seeing Scott Kensit sin bined with a careless high tackle.
Boorowa took advantage of the fitness with a few late tries but with the efforts of the reserve players in the last ten minutes it was magical holding the scores even at 33 all.
The crowd was biting their fingernails until a penalty was awarded 45 metres out which the golden boot of Andrew Nolan sealed the deal for the Dogs 36-33.
3 points - Mick Carlon
2 points - Gearin Price and Aaron Leighton
1 point - Andrew Nolan
