This Cameron McIntosh production is now in its record-breaking 30th year at the Queens Theatre.
Cameron McIntosh was extremely impressed with Jeremy’s outstanding success as “Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber,” which is still running.
Jeremy will continue in this role during his rehearsals for “Les Miserable” until he joins the permanent cast on June 15.
Earlier successes for Jeremy include his role in “Phantom of the Opera” at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London, where he often took the lead role as understudy, with considerable success.
His Sweeney Todd performance has drawn high praise from London theatre critics – and the power and menace he provided no doubt greatly influenced Cameron McIntosh in naming him in his new role.
Inspector Javert is a key figure in the “Les Miserable” story, in his ruthless pursuit of the hero Jean Valjean, with top English stage star Peter Lockyer to continue in this role.
Jeremy is well remembered in Crookwell where he spent much of his schooldays when his father Ken was Sergeant in Charge of the Crookwell Police District, - and had his first singing lessons under the guidance of Mrs. Jenny McCarthy.
His brother Michael is still a resident.
Jeremy’s first professional stage appearance was in the ‘eighties in “A Grand Night for Singing” at Sydney’s Footbridge Theatre.
He has appeared in many musical productions from New Zealand to England, where his greatest successes have occurred in many different stage roles and concerts.
The important role of Javert is perhaps his greatest challenge yet – but to earn Cameron McIntosh’s approval stamps Jeremy as now a leading figure on the London stage.
