Crookwell under 18s v Tuggeranong Bushrangers report
Last weekend saw the final round of the under 18s competition and it was first place verse second place on the ladder.
The Tuggeranong Bushrangers had the home ground advantage and the last couple of times Crookwell had just hung on for a win.
Crookwell were looking for a good win to advance into the finals with momentum.
The day started slowly for the Devils with the Bushrangers going in for the first try eight minutes into the game with the conversion successful. 6 nil to the Bushrangers.
The boys got a rev up under the posts by Brad and Troy and this did the trick with the team showing their true Crookwell spirit and this was the last time Tuggeranong crossed the line.
The boys played for each other, trusted each other in defence and all run hard in attack.
The forwards led by captain Andy Leonard and lock Jayden Eddy were tough in defence never giving an easy metre and the backs led by halves Jordan Unterrheiner and Sam Picker were good in defence but showed great class in attack with Jordan showing good footwork to score one of the tries.
With big Izack Gibbs giving the body a well earned rest for this game, Steven Cummins went to the fullback roll which must have agreed with him .
He had his best game for the season showing great individual skills to scored four tries for the game.
The final score was 28 - 6 to Crookwell which was a very pleasing result.
Players Player was Jaden Eddy who as always never gives up and always gives his best whenever he runs onto the field.
George Tooke
Crookwell Senior Rugby League is alive and well with all three grades making the semi's
It is a credit to the George Tooke and 18s coach Chris Chudleigh and She devils coach Paddy Lenane to get all three grades to the semi's.
The committee and sponsors would like to thank them for their efforts throughout the year and wish them well in the finals series.
The devils do not get any home finals but appreciate the locals who have followed them during the year and ask them to give the Devils support during the finals.
The under 18s are minor premiers for their comp finishing first with 28 points and +304 in for and against.
They have a week off and play Tuggeranong in the major semi-finals on August 22 starting at 10.40am at Seiffert Oval, Queanbeyan.
In the George Tooke Shield, the Devils had a last round bye and this means Crookwell finished fourth which is a very good result for the young side.
They now qualify for the minor semi-finals against Yass Magpies at Mick Sherd Oval, Bungendore at 1.30pm on Saturday August 15.
Crookwell have a good chance of winning this game having defeated Yass during the year.
The forwards are finding their feet and hitting hard in defence and the pace out wide means Crookwell will always score plenty of points.
She Devils
The She Devils were to play their last game at Crookwell on Saturday but some very poor organising from Canberra referees saw no referee allocated to the game and with very late notice the coach and manager did not have enough time to organise another one.
This did not change the table with the She Devils finishing fourth which is a very good result as none of the girls had previously played the game at the start of the season.
The She Devils play in the minor semi-finals against Yass Girlpies at Mick Sherd Oval, Bungendore at 11.30am on Saturday August 15.
We wish all three side the very best of luck in the finals.
