Friday night football returned to the Memorial Oval on April 22 with both senior teams taking on ADFA.
Both the League Tag and the George Tooke sides were very impressive and the ADFA teams were unable to score a point at the Crookwell Memorial Oval - they returned to Canberra scoreless!
What a great crowd in the chook shed and around the ground, considering the damp weather conditions.
League Tag
With this being the first game against ADFA for the season it was a bit of an unknown as to how their team would perform, but the She Devils weren't going to wait around to find out and from the kick off they were at full pace and scored in the first two minutes of the game.
From there it was one way traffic, with some of the more experienced players from last years team combining with the new faces of the She Devils, they were able to put 48 points on their opponents in the first half.
Second half started the same as the first with She Devils scoring again in the first few minutes of the half.
Unlike the first half with their points coming from attacking the middle of the ruck the She Devils shifted the ball out to their backs which spread there oppositions defence thinly out wide producing another haul of tries.
The final score was 78-0
Coach Paddy Lenane was happy with his team’s efforts saying, “the new girls in the team are learning really quickly with the help of the more experienced players and it is showing with some of the tries scored and the combinations”. “Also, they are starting to learn to change their attack during games to suit their opposition which is pleasing”.
Try scorers were Heidi Chudleigh 3, Maddie Cummins 1, Kayla Giles-McGregor 1, Bec Hewitt 1, Danica Lenane 1, Tatum Lenane 1, Kylie Mills 1, Kizziah PLumb 3 and Emily Selmes 3. Conversions Heidi Chudleigh 1, Kylie Mills 1 and Tatum Lenane 7.
She Devils will travel across with the George Tooke side on Saturday April 30 and take on the Boomanulla League Tag side and 1pm.
George Tooke Shield
Round three of the George Tooke Shield kicked off last Friday night with the Crookwell Green Devils taking on ADFA at the Memorial Oval.
In contrast to the first two rounds, the Devil’s side started the game on fire.
After only three minutes of play Ben Cummins crossed for the first try of the match.
It wasn't long before Cummins was over again in the 6th minute.
The Devils continued to show great attacking form with Josh Hunter crossing out wide in the 10th minute.
Ben Cummins shared another first half hat trick when he crossed in the 25th minute, this took the half time score to 16-0 to the Devils.
After listening to professor Adam 'Cheesey' Evans’ halftime address in the shed, the Devils continued on with their first half form.
A try after seven minutes to Tyler 'Kegs' Keller was converted by Dallas McDonald taking the Devils lead to 22-0.
After 13 minutes in the second half Ben Cummins crossed the line for try number four for the night.
Captain Jamie Boothman crossed soon after in the 17th minute - both tries were converted and Devils led 34-0.
The rest of the match saw the Devil’s side defend their line and repel the ADFA side time after time.
The score remained unchanged at full time, with the Devils being convincing winners 34-0.
All the devil’s team played well.
Ben Cummins and Danny Knight had great games in the backline.
Cummins has now scored eight tries in the two outings at the home ground, Memorial Oval.
In the forwards Joe Cummins again led the way and was well supported by Kayne Davis who is a constant threat from dummy half. The players player award went to Joe Cummins.
The Devils travel to Keith Tournier Oval, Ainslie, this Saturday 30 April to take on the Boomanulla Raiders at 2pm.
Youth League
The Youth League played at Bungendore on Saturday but unfortunately didn’t come away with a win this week.
The final score from the game was 50-18
