In this modern era we have the accessibility of our loved ones a little easier through the use of social media.
We can have a chat using online hangouts and we can send any amount of selfies through messaging on Facebook or Instagram.
However, it is also nice to be able to have a face-to-face with those you don’t spend a lot of time with through the year.
The Christmas tree should have a gift under it for each of your visitors and it is the time of year to splurge a little on the finer things. If you have neighbours you know are elderly, then pop over to see if they are OK. They may not have close family members who call on them frequently.
We live in a very caring and giving community and we should keep the friendly spirit alive over the Christmas period.
The Christmas gift tree is now set up at the IGA and you can donate a present to the Vinnies appeal, which stays locally for our struggling families.
You can also purchase a ticket in the Harts Christmas Tree. The proceeds of this goes directly to Viewhaven residents. There is a $100 prize for the best decorated home in Crookwell. Be quick to enter this at the Visitor’s Centre as it is judged next week.
If you are in hospital over Christmas you will receive a gift from the Hospital Auxiliary members. This is a wonderful idea for those who spend Christmas away from their homes. It doesn’t take much to make someone else feel special.
So, in closing, I think the spirit of giving to others and asking your friends if they are OK will make us all feel a little more festive.
