Time to ride on sheep’s back

Currently Merino wool prices are operating above the 90th percentile band, whilst lamb and mutton are also in keen demand.

The question commonly being asked is what will it take to win back the farmland use that has seen wool production shrink to historically low volumes through all sorts of price trends and seasonal conditions.

Moses and Son, AWI, MLA, Sheep Solutions and Agriwebb have joined forces to present a series of sessions on the benefits of incorporating and or increasing sheep numbers in your business.  

The sessions are intended to provide advice and practical solutions to drive your enterprise forward. 

They aim to have a balanced mix of profitable and sustainable practice, to ensure the story of sheep and wool industry remains in Australia’s storybooks for centuries to come.

Reality is that the past trend to vines, dairy, dry land broad-acre cereal cropping have all encountered their challenges, and amidst droughts, floods, fire, conservationists, animal liberation groups and the foreign and local corporate grab for our agricultural land, the majority of the humble farmers have been able to grow their balance sheet.

Whilst this has been largely due to the increase in rural land values across most of the country, we are now seeing fibre and protein production from sheep enterprises start to return solid margins to those faithful who have held the steady course in the age old enterprise.

The journey over the past 36-years has shown that the successful businesses have commonalities which include sustainable production models, cutting edge husbandry and management and finally, a dash of prudent risk management of our product price.
