Smaller villages nowadays rely on good community spirit and a place to come together, whether they are celebrating a wedding, Christmas party or just having a meeting. Grabben Gullen has just the venue for this. The Hall committee secretary Pam Reeves is in the process of writing the history of the hall.
“I find it fascinating going back to the early days, discovering the early history of the hall.”
She said, “We recently received a grant from Gullen Range wind farm totaling $28.000.”
“With this money we are able to guarantee the upkeep to the hall by making improvements on the working capabilities and the amenities plus the beautification is important.”
The community hall was first built in the early 1900s and people have looked after the hall very well over the years.
The hall is iconic to the area known as the perfect venue for the popular ‘Sapphire Safari’ back in the eighties and more recently the well-known band ‘Brittlejack’ entertaining large audiences on a regular occurrence.
The hall can seat up to 200 comfortably and is a great country place for a wedding.
The venue is also used for voting, reunions, meetings, functions and general socialising. The committee follow strict guidelines put out by the Department of Lands for the use of the hall and the grounds.
“We have completed beautification to the inside of the hall ($24.500) with it being freshly painted, rewired and new power points placed throughout.
The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all the local trades people for helping with the hall. The exterior fencing (nearly $4000) was supplied through the grant as well.
“Improvements to the kitchen and bathrooms have also been completed making them disabled friendly.” If you are organising a family reunion you will be well catered for with camping available on the grounds.
The hire of the hall is most welcome with the rent going back into more restoration. Next on the agenda is cladding for the hall to upbeat the street appeal.
The committee also noted the kitchen is due for an upgrade and the picnic areas need beautification as they are used quite frequently by the community and visitors. The hall is available by contacting Pam Reeves in Crookwell.
