Ben Seamen made a martyr of the Goldies finding a few holes, however the Goldies soon had his number and started to increase their defensive lines putting more pressure on the number 8.
Not weakening the Doggies spirit, the boys continued to make ground in what was a fast paced first half.
First Half Score 15 -17 Crookwell
With the Dogs hoping the game would slow down in the second half, the boys struggled as the game continued to pick up pace.
With time ticking away, super coach Bruce Nixon decided it was time to put some fresh legs on the field to make up for lost time.
Showing great determination the boys managed to maintain the lead with the game closing to 22-27 to the Dogs with only 5 minutes on the clock.
With the Goldies in possession and attacking hard the pressure built resulting in a broken defensive line and with only seconds left on the clock the Goldie’s managed to get the ball over the line, despite skepticism of the ball being knocked on.
The odds though remained in Crookwell’s favor, as the try was unconverted resulting in a score of 27-27.
The weekend just passed the Dogs traveled interstate to take on Gungahlin Eagles in the ACT.
After a good rev up from the coach throughout the week the boys were fired up and trying to prove to the coach they were here to be hot contender for the premiership this year.
With a fast flowing game of rugby, it was a chance for the blokes to get off the nuddie run list at the end of the year.
The try’s came thick and fast with the following players crossing the line, Tom Wormon 2, Jack Worman 2, Sam Elliot 1, Nick Toole 1, Charlie Zouch 2, Angus Hedges 2, Aaron Leighton 1, Ben Seamen 1, Steve Kelly 1, Jackson Tooth 1, and finally Troy ‘Old Dog’ Bensley 1.
The boys however didn’t make it easy for kicker Andrew Nolan, who spent most of the day kicking from the sideline, combined with increase winds the pressure remained high.
Special mentions must go to Jack and Tom Worman with their run away chip and chase try, which was spectacular to watch.
Angus Hedgers (also known as Jonah Lomu) busted through tackles all day to make it over the line two times.
And the big number (two) Charlie Zouch (Wood Chuck) made a outstanding break away, running a solid 80 meters where he managed to fend off a bloke twice his size whilst still sprinting down the field.
Final score 0-91 Crookwell Dogs
Points; Charlie Zouch 3, Angus Hedgers 2, Jackson Tooth 1. Player’s player and Chick’s Pick - Charlie Zouch.
