DIGGING FOR GOLD?
Prolific Irish songwriter Percy French penned “The Mountains of Mourne” in 1896 with the lyrics including the line “...there’s gangs of them digging for gold in the street”, a wry reference to the manual labour of the typical Irish immigrant in London.
As the annual major fundraiser for Gunning Public School, volunteers including Principal Danny Scott are also digging for gold – the Gunning Gold sheep manure. This black gold from under the “Lerida” shearing shed is destined for delivery to Canberrans to improve their generally clay soils.
YOUTH SPEAK OUT

Three further events for youth will be held this year to tease out more information and ideas for the council.
