The city of Goulburn will be the site of the State Government’s first Community Cabinet meeting for 2018. Community Cabinets were introduced by former Labor Premier Morris Iemma in 2007.
They require NSW Government ministers to visit towns and meet the communities, culminating in a community morning tea and Cabinet meeting.
Member for Goulburn Pru Goward said she would be “delighted” to welcome the NSW Cabinet to the Southern Tablelands, giving locals an opportunity to speak to ministers in person.
“Ministers will have the opportunity to meet with staff in their respective government agencies,” Ms Goward said.
There will also be time to inspect state projects that are progressing, or proposed, in the electorate.”
“I will be showing the Premier and Cabinet what recent funding is achieving, but also flagging potential future projects and discussing government policies that will benefit the residents of the Goulburn electorate.”
Ms Goward said she would be showing ministers where funding had already been invested in the electorate, particularly in the areas of health, schools, sports facilities and emergency services.
Goulburn Labor president Jason Shepherd said if the gathering led to anything for the electorate, it would be useful; otherwise, it would just be a “one-sided talk fest”.
“They can have as many Community Cabinets as they want,” Mr Shepherd said. “It is about what actually happens here after it.”
