Two Indigenous teachers from Goulburn High School, Mark White and Amie-Lea Friend, worked with every student in our school to create a mural that captures Aboriginal history and dreamtime. The mural will be displayed in our school playground and the unveiling will take place in NAIDOC Week early next term.

Following the mural creation, guest performer Ryka Ali visited Crookwell Public School to share his culture and talents in music and dance. Ryka captivated our K-6 audience and encouraged their participation in a range on experiences that strengthened their knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture.

On Friday, Maxine Hodges (parent and AECG member, together with her two sons, Noah and Thomas) shared Aboriginal language and the special skill of finger knitting with all primary classes. Maxine, Noah and Thomas enriched our day and Reconciliation Week through their proud, personal connection to Indigenous culture.

Crookwell Public School recently welcomed Tim Macartney-Snape to speak at assembly. Tim is a respected mountaineer and the first Australian to have climbed Mount Everest.

Tim spoke about what inspired him to become a mountaineer as well as the challenges and successes that he has experienced over numerous Himalayan adventures.

Tim’s final message to students was to follow the things that you are passionate about and to recognise that big dreams can be achieved through small steps. We look forward to seeing what our students can achieve by following this advice.

Recently, the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams competed in the PSSA knockout competition. Both teams travelled to Goulburn to compete against Goulburn Public and Goulburn West schools. Unfortunately our teams did not progress to the next round but they had a great day and should be very proud of their efforts!
