This is an inaugural event for our town and for many years it has been held at Moss Vale Showground, but due to weather conditions and limited and expensive accommodation we have decided to move the show to the Peden Pavilion at the Goulburn Recreation Area.
The Charles Ledger Show has been running since 1989. It takes its name from the man credited with importing the first alpacas into New South Wales from South America in 1858.
Across the Region AAA members also facilitate regular educational opportunities on alpaca husbandry, fleece harvesting and preparation and other aspects of alpaca industry development.
They work together to facilitate fibre collection points and assist alpaca growers to interlot fleece into larger consignments for fleece buyers.
The Charles Ledger runs for two days, starting at 8.30am each morning and there will be exhibitors from throughout NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and possibly Western Australia.
Last year, at Moss Vale, there were about 200 animals entered into the show, and organisers are hopeful that with the venue and the show now being undercover this number will increase and there will be animals for sale as well.
Members of the public are welcome to come and watch the judging and when opportunities arise ask questions of exhibitors. There will be stalls selling alpaca products and others selling refreshments.
