A Night with Neville Brady, held at the Crookwell Golf Club, “an excellent night of good fun and good advice,” said Ted O’Kane from the Department of Primary Industries Rural Resilience Program.
“People had an opportunity to socialise, have a laugh and remind themselves what’s important in life.”
Mr Brady talked to people in a way that really reached into their hearts, mind and funny bone.
He explained the increased risk of suicide, stress-related health problems, and reduced life expectancy, and how the odds were soberly stacked up against men.
However, Mr Brady also explained some simple, and practical approaches to staying positive, keeping things in perspective, and keeping your eyebrows up.
Don’t take life so seriously, and laughter really is the best medicine.
- Neville Brady
Don’t take life so seriously, and laughter really is the best medicine, he said.
He weaved in his own life experiences, funny, and at times touching reflections on how life rarely goes to plan.
Regardless of all our efforts, we will always, at times, be faced with situations that require support and connection with family, friends and our local community, he said.
The night was hosted by Upper Lachlan Landcare, DPIs Rural Resilience Program, Andersons Livestock and Real Estate, John McGeechans Farm Supplies, Duncombe Livestock, and Real Estate and many local businesses who generously donated an impressive array of lucky door prizes, including two drench packs from Virbac.
“I was so pleased to see how well this event was supported by local businesses,” said Nerida Croker from Upper Lachlan Landcare.
“It just goes to show what a strong supportive community we have and how important everyone feels these sorts of events are.”
“We hope people will be walking a little lighter this week”, says Mr O’Kane.
“And if you see some funny waves in the street, just know they went to hear Neville Brady!”
