At our last meeting, it was determined that the council would not be taking any action to develop a recreational vehicle parking area at Willis Park. Among the submissions council received opposing the use as an RV site were concerns over impact to dog exercise areas, and possible impact on neighbouring residences.

Our councillors heard what members of the community had to say and responded accordingly.
The notion of finding a suitable site for RV parking was not lost entirely and the council will explore other options. The council’s general manager and I attended the Local Government Conference in Albury last week. From discussions with other councils, it’s obvious that RV parking availability increases visitation and is a boost to local economies. Even in areas such as Gundagai, where two caravan parks already exist, the RV parking facility is being well used and welcomed. The trick is, and will be, finding the right site.
Great news last week from Pru Goward that the state government will be granting over $5 million in funding for improvements to Grabine Road and Wombeyan Caves Road. It is a welcome announcement for the locals who use these roads and another boost for our ever developing tourism sector. As Pru said in her announcement, “Wyangala Dam and Wombeyan Caves are the two biggest tourism attractions for our region.” For Grabine Road, the injection of funds will enable the council to complete approximately 50 percent of the remaining unsealed section. We’re nearly there!
