The council will initiate the process to rename Gundaroo Street in Gunning to Collector Road, after lobbying from the Collector Road Action Group (CRAG).
While Gundaroo Street currently turns into Collector Road nearby to Cullavin Street, it has historically caused confusion for emergency services and postal workers.
CRAG said emergency services have been called to the wrong part of Gunning, and that residents’ mail had been reportedly sent back to the depot.
“We’re not asking the council to flout history, just deliver a practical solution,” CRAG organiser, Gavin Douglas said.
A letter addressed to the ULSC from the Hume Police District supported the name change and the concerns raised by CRAG regarding the location.
The council also agreed to improve pedestrian access and safety between Gunning Catholic Cemetery, on Collector Road, and Yass Street intersection for residents and visitors.
CRAG documents show that the section of road is used by both pedestrians and cyclists who are trying to visit the cemetery, undertake exercise and leisure activities or access Gunning from the highway.
We’re not asking the council to flout history, just deliver a practical solution.

The current path is uneven and CRAG have requested an even and smooth pathway and added to the ULSC pedestrian access mobility plan for timely conversion to sealed footpath.
Julie Kennedy, operations manager of Gunning District Community and Health Services supported the initiative. “We believe that full mobility access should be made available for all residents and visitors,” she said.
Gunning residents recently added speed limit stickers to council bins in the area in an attempt to slow down motorists. CRAG acknowledges that the speed limit was an issue but will not presently advocate on this.
