The money has guaranteed the foundation was able to provide a two-year old born in rural Kenya, Shanice, the gift of sight.
Shanice was born with a cataract in both eyes and faced a lifetime of blindness.
Her parent’s, Milly and William earned less than $3 a day and were told by a local doctor that cataracts would go away.
By nine months old, Shanice faced the risk of living with permanent blindness.
A skilled surgeon trained by The Fred Hollows Foundation was able to restore her sight.
Founding Director, Gabi Hollows, extended her heartfelt thanks to the people of Crookwell and said Fred Hollow would be amazed by their compassion and kindness to help fight in the ongoing battle against avoidable blindness.
“Without the support of people from Crookwell, the foundation couldn’t have helped so many people like Shanice this year,” Ms Hollows said.
“Our generous donors are at the heart of our Fred Hollows foundation family, and they help us transform the lives of those living with avoidable blindness.”
“I am so grateful to everyone who has supported our work this year, and the past 25 years; I extend my heartfelt thanks,” Ms Hollows said.
