A Crookwell State Emergency Service (SES) crew was called out to assist Goulburn SES on Friday, January 11 after a deluge of rain impacted Goulburn. Up to 40 millimetres fell in the city from 1.30pm.
The rain flooded roads and properties, and crews had to sandbag properties to protect residencies, and attend incidents of roofs impacted by the rain.
While, NSW Rural Fire Services (RFS) attended two fires caused by lightning strike on Friday.
“The first lighting strike was reported on Foggs Crossing Road (Bigga), and that was a single tree alight, just after 1pm,” NSW RFS Daniel Osborne said.
The second was on Whick Whack Road at Bigga, at ‘Burnafahes’, a single tree caught alight at about 1:45pm.
Both of those fires had two category 7 trucks trucks in attendance, and both were extinguished.
Tuena RFS also attended to a fallen tree on Bathurst Road on Friday, about 7pm, Mr Osborne added.
While, the hot, dry and windy conditions on Sunday, January 13 saw two crews from Crookwell and one from Grabben Gullen called out to attend a grass fire on Hawthorn Tree Road. The fire burnt through 4 hectares.
“The first arriving officer reported the fire intensity was fairly low and burning slowly through a grass paddock,” Mr Osborne said.
“It started as a result of the landholder using a tractor with a mulcher, which created some sort of spark.
The landholder had water and fire fighting equipment on site, and were able to slow the progress of the fire.”
