NSW RFS Superintendent Peter Alley said that the Total Fire Ban will now remain in place until at least 23:59hrs on Friday, January 18.
Temperatures tomorrow are forecast to reach up to 44 degrees with winds expected from the west north-west gusting up to 70km/h, pushing the Fire Danger Rating to ‘Severe’.
“Under the predicted conditions fires may be uncontrollable, fast moving and could threaten properties with little warning. These conditions will also make controlling any fires that break out very challenging for fire fighters,” said Superintendent Alley.
“Leaving early is always the safest option. It is so important for residents to have a Bush Fire Survival Plan so they know what they will do if a fire was to threaten their property or community.
“I would recommend that all residents review their Bush Fire Survival Plan with their family, keep themselves informed, monitor conditions and be ready to act if necessary,” Superintendent Alley said.
Residents can stay informed by checking www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information, by calling the Bush Fire Information Line on 1800 679 737 or by downloading the ‘Fires Near Me’ app for smart devices.
Should residents see a fire without a fire truck in attendance, they should report it immediately to Triple Zero (000).
