The firm is undertaking the assessments with the Upper Lachlan Shire Council (ULSC).
On Monday, the bridge at Harley Road, on Kiamma Creek, in Crookwell was closed until further notice on advice from the firm.
Pitt and Sherry advised the council that the bridge should be closed to all vehicles as a safety precaution.
An investigation, which was undertaken by the council's officers, confirmed the findings and the bridge was subsequently closed.
"The council officers are investigating solutions to repair the bridge as a matter of priority and will provide further information when a solution is found," ULSC general manager John Bell said.
Pitt and Sherry completed the assessment and inspection of 17 bridges to determine the safety and load capacity of each bridge.
This included 13 timber bridges and four concrete bridges.
The local government expects that an assessment report will be provided to the council next week.
Detours are in place for the Harley Road bridge and and the area is signposted for alternative access routes.
"Motorists are asked to observe all signage, drive to conditions and allow for additional travel time while the detours are in place," a council spokesperson said.
The council apologises for any inconvenience caused, but says "public safety is our number one priority".
