Highway Patrol issue notice for speeding at Binda

Officers conducting patrols as part of Operation Stay Alert said they detected a 63-year-old male driver from Camden South travelling at 120km/h in a 100km/h zone on Junction Point Road, Binda.

It was the same location where four cars collided at about 4.50pm on Friday. A 91-year-old Bigga man died in one of those crashes.

The man was issued a traffic infringement notice for motor vehicle exceed speed more than 20km/h.

Police said several motorists were making poor decisions on the roads.

Operation Stay Alert commenced at midnight Friday and concluded at midnight on Monday, June 10. Double demerits were in force throughout the period.

A 25-year-old Bomaderry man died, and another man is critical, after a two-vehicle crash on Gerroa Road, at Berry on Saturday afternoon.

In this region, an 18-year-old male P2 driver from Hill Top, was detected travelling at 165km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Hume Highway, Sutton Forrest, police said.

His licence was immediately suspended. The teenager was also issued with a traffic infringement notice for motor vehicle exceed speed more than 45km/h and his licence was suspended for six months.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said the weekend saw several fatal crashes, where vehicles left the road and hit other objects.

"While the causes of all the crashes on the weekend are still under investigation, I would encourage all drivers or riders to be aware of their surroundings and take breaks if they are tired," Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.

"It doesn't matter where you are travelling to - crashes do not discriminate. They can happen anywhere and at any time," Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.
