The PACC is a result of the NSW Police Force Aboriginal Strategic Direction 2018-2023, which aims to build upon the achievements of the past to strengthen the relationship between Aboriginal communities and the NSWPF into the future.
Members from the NSWPF Aboriginal Coordination Team have been in the Hume Police District helping respective sectors set up their PACC.
The Aboriginal Coordination Team will continue to support each sector with its delivery across the district.
The PACC seeks a genuine level of Aboriginal community ownership and involvement through a consultative and proactive approach.
A key approach of this policy is to involve Aboriginal people in the consultation process so that they understand the objectives and intent of the NSWPF, and that the community is engaged in the process.
The objectives of the PACC are to:
- Ensure community safety
- Enhance communication and understanding between police and Aboriginal people,
- Collaborate with other agencies to reduce Aboriginal over-representation in the criminal justice system,
- Improve the safety and well-being of young Aboriginal people.
This forum allows Aboriginal community members to have a voice in how their community is policed through building positive relationships.
