The referee ended the game at 33-0 after a lengthy wait for the ambulance.

"He got caught up in a tackle and the weight of the opposition caught his leg wrong and broke his leg," Crookwell Dogs coach Bruce Nixon said.

"It's unfortunate, but it does happen in rugby.

"Everyone was disappointed to what had happened to him.

"He'll be having an operation."

Although the players weren't out on the field for too long, Nixon was very happy with the 30 minutes.

The win miraculously helped the Dogs to second on the South Coast Monaro Second Division ladder at the end of the home and away season as other results went their way.

The Braidwood Redbacks beat the Batesman Bay Boars 45-10 while the Jindaybyne Bushpigs upset the Taralga Tigers 43-33.

As a result, the Dogs now have a tough match in the first week of the finals against the side who comfortably took care of them the week before in the table topping Taralga Tigers.

Nixon said his was prepared, especially having played them plenty of times already this season.

He also said their defence would be key as usual.

"We've earnt ourselves a double chance, so we'll have a good crack at them," Nixon said.

"We've been working on our structure all year and it's just making sure we stick to what we know.

"Defensively, we haven't been the worst and that's the main thing we need to take into the game.

"They are a really structured side and create a lot of space.

"If we can cut those spaces down, we give ourselves a chance.

"If we don't, they'll hurt us."

The mood among the players heading into the most important stage of the season is great.

"After losing a lot of games early on in the season, the boys have done really well to be where they are," Nixon said.

"Everyone's quietly confident about doing what they're doing and I think they'll be fine."

The Bushpigs will play the Boars in the other match where the winners will play the loser of the Dogs and Tigers.
