It hasn't been easy, the season started poorly, but the Dogs are the winners of the South Coast Monaro Second Division after beating the Taralga Tigers 14-7 at the Crookwell Memorial Oval on Saturday, August 24.

The home side trailed 7-0 at half time, but a burst towards the try line from the Dogs number 18 Tom McGregor in the final play of the game put his side on top of the world.

"The ball was being spread wide, the defence was sliding and a gap opened up," McGregor said.

Crookwell Dogs coach Bruce Nixon said the conditions and the crowd helped his side in the second half.

"Although Taralga were in front at half time, we were still in the game because we had the wind and downhill run in the second half," Nixon said.

"We just had to grind it out.

"Going into the game, we knew that it was going to be tough and hard.

"The home crowd was very important as well.

"They had a huge effect for us every time we needed a lift."

Unfortunately, there had to be a loser on the day, but Taralga Tigers coach Evan Rees said his team still did him proud.

"The boys have had a great season and can hold their heads high," Rees said.

"At the end of the game, I congratulated them on a great season.

"Grand finals aren't easy to win.

"Competitions aren't easy to win.

"We just have to take it on the chin."

Part of the game plan for the Tigers heading into the final was to keep possession for as long as possible, but errors in the final quarter of the game cost them.

"They had a lot of field position in the last 20 minutes and they made the most of it," Rees said.

"The idea was to keep the ball in hand as much as we could.

"Unfortunately today, we turned it over pretty cheaply at times.

"They seemed to maintain possession for long periods and that put us under a lot of pressure."

This was the Dog's second win over the TIgers in three weeks.
