The members of the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) will help local brigades fight the Bees Nest Fire, west of Dorrigo in Armidale.
Southern Tablelands firefighters joined the battle line on the morning of September 11 as the fire burned close to homes and properties.
The firefighters were deployed to battle the out of control blaze and relieve daytime crews, returning on September 14, Gunning RFS Captain Krystaal Hinds said.
It is now under control, but has burnt more than 94,000 hectares.
Captain Hinds was deployed as Strike Team Leader leading the 16 firefighters, including Gunning volunteers Ben Warhurst, Isla Baird and Doug Fraser and Merrill volunteer Eris Heffernan.
The bushfire had flared up the day before Southern Tablelands crews arrived, Captain Hinds said. However, conditions turned favourable and they were able to hold back the fire with strategic containment lines.
They worked from from the Tyringham Staging Area, and were tasked with patrolling and property protection, she said. Just days earlier residents were advised to put their bushfire plan into action.
She said at 4am, the bushfire began to make its way back towards property which crews were able to protect.
Overnight on Thursday, crews worked with the Forestry Corporation and National Parks to put in a strategic back burn on the Moonpar Road.
Captain Hinds said residents in the Southern Tablelands must prepare for the bushfire season.
"We urge all residents to take every precaution and prepare their properties, not to be complacent."
RFS Southern Tablelands Zone operational officer Daniel Osborne said these bushfires were a sign of things to come in the Southern Tablelands.
"Our local community should take what's happened in the past week as an absolute warning of what's potentially coming for the Southern Tablelands in the coming months," he said.
