In the Upper Lachlan Shire, the newly formed Upper Lachlan Small Business Association will promote the region's diverse businesses at a small business expo.
It's time to start shopping locally and supporting local enterprise, says chair of the Upper Lachlan Small Business Association Susan Reynolds.
The peak body for small businesses in the Upper Lachlan Shire was formed in August this year.
It already has more than 50 members, from Taralga, Laggan, Crookwell, Collector, Binda and Gunning.
"There is an amazing range of products and services available for consumers that are right in our backyard," Ms Reynolds said.
For consumers, the Buy in Your Backyard expo is a chance to find out the products and services available in the Upper Lachlan, as well as to meet the business owners.
The expo will include those businesses with shopfronts, tradespeople as well as mobile businesses, home-based, online and micro-operations.
"Did you know there is a micro-brewery at Laggan, or that Belinda Foley from Foley Farms offers all-natural products?" Ms Reynolds asked.
Many businesses in the Upper Lachlan also tap into the tourist market.
There are travel hot spots scattered across the area: Wyangala Dam borders the local government area to Wombeyan Caves in the east and the Abercrombie Caves in the west.
Businesses now cater to this growing market and there is potential for small business owners to collaborate and to further promote our region's wares, Ms Reynolds said.
The expo will include shopfronts, trades, mobile, home-based, online and micro-operations.
The two-day event will be held at the Memorial Hall on Denison Street, Crookwell on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12, 10am to 4pm. Entry is free for visitors and exhibitors. The Upper Lachlan Shire Council (ULSC) mayor John Stafford and Goulburn MP Wendy Tuckerman will officially open the expo on Friday from 10.30am.
Morning tea will be provided by Crookwell branch of the Country Women's Association and Beans and Brew will have fresh coffee available.
Andrew Haskins, business advisor from Southern Region Business Enterprise Centre (SRBEC), will provide business tips throughout the expo for all business owners.
The event is sponsored by ULSC Economic Development Taskforce and the SRBEC.
