There is not much opportunity to take a 'smoko' break during spring - there is shearing, lambing, marking, calving and many other tasks - but, a short break can be very refreshing, especially one that includes a range of helpful information all in one place.
A Landcare 'smoko' break will be held at the Crookwell Women's Association rooms on Tuesday, October 29 from 5-6pm.
Fiona Taylor from the Rural Financial Counselling Service will have the latest information about income and financial assistance available for primary producers. This includes programs such as the freight and emergency water rebates.
The Rural Fire Service (RFS) will explain how to get involved with your local brigade and what assistance the RFS provide during fire emergencies: information on the Fire Wise Farm Plan; developing an individualised Bushfire Survival Plan; burn-off permits, and; new guidelines for operating heavy machinery will be available.
South East Local Land Services veterinarian, Henry Clutterbuck will share his tips on how to keep farms, and individuals, healthy with a workable bio-security plan and awareness of disease threats.
"Often it's only minor adjustments and simple steps people need to take to dramatically reduce the risk of their farm, or themselves, being exposed to potentially debilitating disease," Doctor Clutterbuck said.
There will be lots of resources and reading material to take home and Upper Lachlan Landcare will give away a range of tube stock seedlings for participants to add green to their patch.
This is a free event. RSVPs are not required but would be helpful for catering. Feel welcome just to drop in.
