An excellent all-round display by Abdul Raheem, with 97 runs, three wickets and a great catch, helped the Southern Tablelands ease past the Far South Coast Monaro, and record a good 55-run win in the ACT and Southern Districts Inter-Zone one-day game played in Cooma.
Coach Garry Anable and manager Gary Herd have moulded the Southern Tablelands team into a tight unit, with players selected from the Crookwell, Yass and Goulburn competitions.
As well as Raheem's contribution, other scores with the bat were provided by Blake McCarten (23), Callum Smith (16), Abdul Kareem (15) and Archie Wearne (13).
Jack McEntee continued his excellent club form with a quick 50.
Oscar Knight did well to see off the new ball before unfortunately being bowled cheaply, while Josh Latham scored a few quick runs at the end of the innings - both players are due some runs which will surely come in the remaining two rep games.
By the end of the innings, Southern Tablelands had accrued 255 from their 50 overs.
Logan Watts was the chief destroyer with the ball for Tablelands, bowling with good pace to take 3-32.
Charlie Moroney (2-46), Callum Smith (1-10), as well as Raheem, chipped in with wickets.
Wicketkeeper McCarten took a great stumping off Archie Wearne's bowling.
Two bowlers who bowled really well without any luck, but which contributed to tightening the screws, were Jack Searle (0-12 off six overs) and Cameron Herd (0-32 off eight overs).
The Far South Coast Monaro were bowled out for 200.
Overall, it was a great team effort off the back of Raheem's excellent all-round contribution.
Captain Blake McCarten and vice captain Archie Wearne were supportive of their team and showed good leadership.
Many thanks to scorers and umpires, and to the Far South Coast Monaro team for their hospitality.
Round Two of the rep season will see the team play Canberra, in Canberra in a few weeks time. This is expected to be a very tough game, but a game that this team has the ability to win.
