The Murugappan family will be reunited in Perth after Immigration Minister Alex Hawke decided to allow them to leave detention on Christmas Island, where they'd been for almost three years.
But a decision is yet to be made on whether any of the family members will be able to reapply for a visa so they can stay in Australia.
"Today's decision does not create a pathway to a visa," Mr Hawke said.

Before being taken to immigration detention, the family had been living in Biloela, Queensland.
Two more residents living in a Melbourne townhouse complex have tested positive for COVID-19.
Targeted testing of the residents in the Southbank complex has been underway since health authorities found a link between an Arcare Maidstone employee who lives in the complex and another resident who tested positive for coronavirus.
The two cases were among more than 200 residents tested on Monday.
The Kings Park Apartment Complex has been listed as a Tier 1 exposure site from June 2 to June 14.
