Goulburn and Crookwell SES units breathes sigh of relief as Southern Tablelands avoids flooding

Units from the Argyle Cluster were not required to attend any callouts or flood rescues despite a severe weather warning being issued for heavy rain across the Southern Tablelands.

Arygle cluster Inspector Ben Lynch, who is also part of the Crookwell unit, said they had received less than the 90mm forecast over Thursday and Friday.

Goulburn TAFE recorded just 10.2mm on Thursday while Crookwell Post Office measured 8.2mm.

"We're all ready to go and had teams on standby but fortunately we didn't see the amount of rain that we were anticipating," he told the Gazette.

"We had none in our cluster. We've still got teams on standby near Goulburn and Crookwell and a couple of flood rescues and a storm team but I don't see them being needed.

"It's not actually raining out here in Crookwell at the moment."

While the weather is expected to improve over the weekend locals are still urged to stay alert. Over 200 sandbags were handed out to residents of Goulburn and surrounds on Wednesday in preparation.

Other parts of the South East SES Zone weren't as lucky with over 300 callouts and several flood rescues, mostly in the Illawarra.

Closer to home, Wingecarribee SES had 23 jobs in Bowral while a man and his dogs had to be recued via helicopter after becoming trapped in floodwaters in Kangaroo Valley.
