Fixing Country Roads is a state government program. The minister for regional transport and roads Paul Toole said it is for improving local road connections and key freight corridors.
"This funding program aims to reduce the cost for councils to upgrade and maintain these roads, as well as supporting local businesses to get goods from paddock to port and plate."
Mr Croke said the council will also apply for the reconstruction and sealing of 3 kilometres of the Collector Road (Gunning to Collector). He said that an application to the Fixing Local Roads program for $1.98 million has been completed.
He added that the council is preparing a further application to the Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative for the Peelwood and Wheeo roads to match any successful Fixing Country Roads grants.
